Are Nasal Sprays Safe During Pregnancy?

Medical professional opinions vary widely, ranging from “OK” to “Use should be avoided". First check with your OBGYN, or other trusted medical professionals, before using any nasal sprays during pregnancy or breast feeding; this advice applies to SinuSave® as well. We will be happy to speak with your doctor, to better understand your specific situation. Please have them reach out to us at (702) 703-2851, to further discuss your needs.

Is Nasal Spray Bad For You?

As with anything you put into your body, care should be taken to understand the benefits and potential side effects before use. In general, nasal sprays containing decongestant drugs come with warnings about over-use which can cause the drug to become less effective; e.g. "Rebound Effect". Afrin® is one such decongestant nasal spray.

Nasal Sprays containing corticosteroids like Flonase® can cause oral thrush (fungal infections that develop inside your mouth). Rinsing your mouth out with water after using inhaled corticosteroids can help to prevent oral thrush.

SinuSave® is a drug-free alternative to OTC nasal sprays, and is made with nine essential oils. If you have any underlying medical conditions, please consult your doctor before using SinuSave®

Is Nasal Spray Addictive?

What you may be referring to is the "Rebound Effect" that can occur if you use over-the-counter nasal decongestant sprays regularly. After a few days of using this type of nasal spray, the condition it was used to treat may come back even stronger when the drug is discontinued or loses effectiveness.

As a result, you may need to use more and more of the medication to control congestion. Your congestion also may worsen if you stop using the medication. Some people may mistake this rebound effect for addiction, but it isn't.

True addiction is a compulsive physiological need for and use of a habit-forming substance known to be physically, psychologically or socially harmful. Over-the-counter nasal sprays don't cause the physiological cravings that mark an addiction.

To prevent rebound congestion, use over-the-counter decongestant nasal sprays for no more than 3 to five days in a row, with as few doses as possible each day. Prescription nasal sprays containing steroids don't cause this rebound effect, so they can be used on a daily basis for years. However, repeated use of nasal sprays with corticosteroids as the active ingredient are known to damage the sensitive membranes inside the nasal passages which can lead to chronic nose bleeds.

The most popular OTC nasal sprays use many of the same chemically active ingredients such as Phenylephrine, Xylometazoline and the most popular Oxymetazoline. Not only are these chemicals bad for your body, but they can also lead to recurring symptoms that worsen over time.

As SinuSave® is 100% drug-free, it can not cause "Rebound Effect".

SinuSave® is safe to use multiple times a day, every day.

I Suffer From Constant Congestion And A Drumming Sensation In My Ears. Can SinuSave® Help?

Remember, we are not medical professionals and do not give medical advice. That being said, our CEO used to suffer from the “drum” effect you described. He found visiting his ENT doctor every few months for an ear flushing cleared the problem. Perhaps you will do that when your local medical professionals restart office visits. Another thing that our CEO found effective is to sleep on his back and raise the head of his bed. An adjustable bed makes this easier but you can create the same effect with a pile of pillows or the purchase of a “bed pillow”. Of course our CEO and thousands of other folks use SinuSave® every day, morning and night, which helps relieve these symptoms.
